If you’re like me, most of your Epic Games Store library consists of titles the service gave away for free. They do this every week (during the holidays, they do it every day) and I usually grab what’s being offered even if I have no interest in it. The truth is, as convenient as it is to lean on Steam for all your PC gaming needs, you shouldn’t. If you give one company that much control over an aspect of your life (video games or anything else), they can and will abuse it. Just because Valve isn’t abusing their power NOW doesn’t mean they won’t in the future…all it takes is for ol’ Gabe to be replaced by Generic Soulless Suit #533.
So don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Having to use two separate launchers is only a minor inconvenience when you consider the alternative. Competition is a good thing. And if you’ve yet to start your EGS collection, this week’s a good foundation point.
When I saw that Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered was the free game, I checked to see if I’d already claimed it. Epic tends to give away their biggest games around Thanksgiving or Christmas, not the middle of May. But nope, this one’s never happened before. You can get the best titles from Lara’s original Playstation adventures all spiffed up with improved graphics for nothing. Neat!
Crystal Dynamics is working on another remake of the first game, but it won’t be here tomorrow. Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is, as far as we know, due out later this year, probably the fall or winter. Crystal D has not announced any delays for the game, or for that matter any updates on its status.
Epic usually gives away two games per week, and the other game this week is Down In Bermuda, a point and click puzzle game where you help a marooned pilot escape the Bermuda Triangle.
