While programmer Jay Otten has been active in the NES homebrew community, he’s been mostly playing and promoting other people’s games through his YouTube streams. After getting his paws wet with the demo The Adventures Of Rip, Otten has taken the plunge into full-on developer with his first full 8-bit title, Rip PI. The Kickstarter for the game is live now.
When Jay first introduced Rip in his demo, the cat was a reaper, a harvester of souls. Now she’s hung up her scythe to become a detective. Rip has just opened for business and her first case seems easy enough: a missing dog. Little does Rip suspect that the thread she’s pulling on will eventually lead her to a vast underground conspiracy that threatens to destabilize her home of After Life City.
Rip P.I. Dog Gone contains eight levels packed with clues and secrets. Rip, by the way, is based on a real cat — Jay’s own cat who died a few years ago.
The cheapest way to get into Rip PI is to go with the digital tier, which costs just $5. The physical cart, box and instruction card come with the $60 tier, and even includes a 11×17 poster. Or you could spring for the Limited Edition at $70 that includes a transparent green cartridge exclusive to this campaign.
The Kickstarter for Rip PI closes on July 15, so be sure to nab this kitty before then.
