Yasuke is an Netflix original Anime based on a historical figure of the same name. Chadwick Boseman was going to make a live-action film of Yasuke’s life story. How I wish he didn’t pass away because he is such a talented man with a good soul. The Yasuke live action film will never happen anymore because of his passing.
This Anime is the closest thing we will get from that film that never happened. Who is Yasuke?Yasuke is a Samurai who served the great daimyō, Oda Nobunaga. He is also of African lineage. A Black slave becoming a noble warrior in a foreign land is such a fascinating story to read. Being able to watch Yasuke fleshed on this series is exciting because I usually read about him. Lakeith Stanfield will be voicing him in the English dub of the Anime.

Many Anime and videogame characters are inspired from Yasuke. Afro Samurai is based from him. A fictionalized version of him is an antagonist in the video game Nioh and he is also a Playable character in the game Samurai 5. The Samurai Shodown character J was also heavily inspired of a historical variation of him that has a Japanese Geisha lover. There is still hope for a Live action movie about Yasuke because Lionsgate was currently developing a biopic of him too.
His fate has been a mystery because some people say he survived his final battle and lived in obscurity while others said he commited suicide after defeat. He is one of those historical figures with unknown fates and origins. No one even know what year he was born but his existence is well documented.
