Logan was meant to be an ending for the classic mutant, as well as for Hugh Jackman, who has been the only man to play the beloved X-Men character since the debut of the franchise in theaters in 2000. But, there was a wonderful side effect to the film, mainly, the arrival of Laura, aka X-23. The character was played by Dafne Keen, and fans instantly feel in love. So much so, that they wanted an X-23 film.
And while that may have seemed unlikely at first, another superhero film seems to have inspired James Mangold and certain studios to think about maybe making that happen. What film? Wonder Woman.
“Patty’s success with [Wonder Woman] only solidifies more for studios that there’s less to fear with a female protagonist,” Mangold said to the The Hollywood Reporter. “The more that keeps getting hit home, that ends up giving me more space turning around and going, ‘Well, here we are with a female protagonist. That’s incredible. And what are we going to do with her?’ And that’s where we are with that [the Laura script] right now, dreaming.”
So yeah, a film script is in the works for X-23. What will come of it? Only time will tell.
