In Ant-Man, the mid-credits scene showed Hank Pym revealing to his daughter, Hope Van Dyne, a new version of The Wasp suit that he admitted he and his wife Janet were making, which he then bequeathed to his daughter. The moment this happened, we wondered when we would see The Wasp in action. Would it be in a possible Ant-Man sequel? Or would it happen sooner, specifically in Marvel’s next feature, Captain America: Civil War?
Slash Film also had this question and asked Kevin Feige, and he gave a surprising answer: “It’s a good question, and it will certainly be in phase three. Where exactly in phase three I’m not sure, but it won’t be in Civil War.”
Originally, The Wasp was going to arrive earlier in Civil War. Feige added: “She was included in early versions of Civil War but there are so many characters in Civil War that we didn’t want to do her a disservice, like she flies in, ‘I’ve got the costume now’, and she flies out. With Ant-Man, and I’m not saying that’s what Ant-Man does in the movie, but we already know him, we’ve already seen him. We haven’t seen her as Wasp and we don’t want to rob the opportunity of seeing her in the outfit for at least almost the first time, and seeing her dynamic with Scott in a way it could play out, so we’re saving it. But it’s going to be in Phase three for sure.”
Marvel Phase Three begins with Captain America: Civil War, so there’s a lot of potential places The Wasp could arrive in. If nothing else, she could help fight Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. Civil War arrives in theater on May 6, 2016. Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 arrives on May 4, 2018, while Part 2 hits on May 3, 2019.
