Viz Media’s May Highlights
Viz Media is preparing a new batch of manga for next month, and shared with us a few plot descriptions today. One thing became clear when we took a look…it’s going to be a weird spring on the manga bookshelf rack. For example, don’t you just hate it when you go down to the store to buy a new TV and wind up being cornered by an invasion of zombies?
ZOM 100: BUCKET LIST OF THE DEAD VOL. 2
By Haro Aso and Kotaro Takata
Akira and Kencho make an impromptu trip to Ikebukuro to snag a widescreen TV. But before they can find one, they wind up trapped by zombies in a department store along with a couple of beautiful girls. As Akira tries to cozy up to one of them, the conversation shifts to childhood dreams, and he realizes it’s time to embrace his own—by becoming a superhero!
Guess he better find his quirk fast. The people who created this manga are also behind the anime Alice In Borderland, which is currently viewable in the US on Netflix.
If this isn’t your speed, perhaps you might enjoy the romantic tale of a powerfully unlucky young woman who finally meets the man of her dreams…who’s hoping her misfortune will wind up causing his own death.
UNDEAD UNLUCK VOL. 1
By Yoshifumi Tozuka
All Fuuko wants is a passionate romance like the one in her favorite shojo manga. Unfortunately, her Unluck ability makes that impossible. But just as Fuuko hits rock bottom, Andy sweeps her off her feet—literally! Now she’s become Andy’s unwilling test subject as he works to find a way to trigger a stroke of Unluck big enough to kill him for good. However, when the pair discovers a secret organization is hunting them, it puts Andy’s burial plans on hold.
Five words are enough for this next one: “Rap battle against the Yakuza.” And it gets weirder.
THE WAY OF THE HOUSEHUSBAND VOL. 5
By Kousuke Oono
Tatsu is ambushed by a yakuza with a beef, and there’s only one way to settle things—an epic rap battle! But this throwdown is only a warm-up for the buffet battle yet to come, because when you’re the Immortal Dragon, you don’t choose the househusband life, it chooses you!
Viz has other things in store like another Black Clover volume and a new edition of Fullmetal Alchemist, but those have a disappointing lack of rap battles or zombies in supermarkets, so we skipped them. All these titles will be released by Viz in May.
