Undercover High School (2025) – A Real Treasure or a Legend?

“Undercover High School”is a 2025 Korean drama series with 12 episodes, categorized as Spy Comedy, Comedy, High School, Youth, and Mystery..

SUMMARY: Is the treasure we seek real? Let’s hope so. And let’s hope the ghosts are not real.

The Real Treasure Is Worth 800 Billion Won

In Undercover High School”, Jung Hae-Seong is an agent for the NIS (National Intelligence Service). He’s very good at his job but even the best sometimes make mistakes. The thing is that in the NIS, your superiors don’t remember your successful missions. They only remember the one that you failed. And usually, you only get a chance to fail once because after that failure … YOU’RE FIRED!

That’s what almost happened to Jung Hae-Seong. But his superior decided to give him a shot at redemption. Several agents were sent on this mission and failed. They weren’t terminated because the NIS director believed the assignment was wrong. The agents had been tasked with finding the lost treasure of King Gojong (the last king of Joseon, and the first emperor of the Korean Empire from 1897 until his forced abdication in 1907). The king had entrusted his treasure to someone he thought was a trustworthy patriot. The man turned out to be a greedy traitor and hid the treasure for himself! The Korean government has been trying to recover this national treasure ever since!

It’s only $800 million in gold bars that they are not even 100% sure really does exist.

The NIS director sent agents to every place where they believed the treasure had been hidden. There was just one place they had not searched: Byeongmun High School. Jung Hae-Seong’s mission – which he had better accept or be terminated – was to go undercover as a student at the high school. He couldn’t go in as a teacher or other school official because there were no job openings.

Who would suspect a transfer student as a spy? Nobody knew except his little sister, who happened to be a student at Byeongmun High School. She and her brother ended up in the same homeroom class. But no worries. Lil sis knows how to keep a secret and wouldn’t dare blow her brother’s cover!  But being in the same class with your big bro? YUK! He better not cause trouble. She’s a member of the student council!

Jung Hae-Seong accepted the assignment but he was not happy about being back in school. There were a lot of bad memories and when he got there he discovered nothing had changed. There were still school bullies and teachers who turned a blind eye to the violence. Saving a fellow student from bullies was not part of his mission. But he couldn’t look the other way. Shortly after arriving on the school grounds, he found an old building that was off-limits.

Everybody wondered why they didn’t just tear the old building down since its construction was supposedly dangerous. Jung Hae-Seong reported back to his superior that there was a high probability the treasure was hidden in that building. One of the students told him nobody goes near the building because it’s haunted by ghosts. Ghosts? No way! Jung Hae-Seong didn’t believe in ghost stories. Well … OK … maybe he believed them just a little bit!

Ghosts or no ghosts? It was his mission to get inside that building and find the lost treasure of King Gojong.

Viewership and Rating:

My personal rating is the same as the Viki viewing audience.

Undercover High School” is a must-watch because everybody is always happy when popular South Korean actors return to the screen after completing their mandatory military service. (Seo Kang Joon Finishes Military Service + What to Anticipate From the Actor | KDrama Stars) It’s a cute spy comedy and kind of predictable. But I liked it!

**Reply from HallyuObsessed:**

I’m not sure if this is my type of drama, but I’m open to giving it a shot! The mix of spy comedy and high school sounds interesting, and I have to admit that Jung Hae-Seong being an NIS agent could lead to some funny situations. I might be in the minority here, but the idea of a treasure hunt tied to history makes me curious, especially with the ghost factor thrown in.

Do you think the comedy will balance well with the mystery? I hope it doesn’t get too serious, but then again, I guess that’s part of the thrill! Anyway, I’m looking forward to seeing if the treasure is real or just a legend. What do you all think? Is it worth watching? 😊
