Clash Royale Is Getting Turned Into A Board Game

Board game crafters Maestro Media are teaming up with Clash Of Clans developer Supercell to translate the spinoff of their mobile hit — a hit on its own — into a tabletop experience both parties also hope will be a hit. Guess we’ll see. They’re calling it Clash Royale: The Grand Arena.

Being card-based, Clash Royale lends itself better to the translation than most other mobile games would. The cards and maps will simply be physical now. Here’s how it works: two to four players assemble around the table and control separate armies consisting of eight-card decks built around their Champion. Each player also has a tower they need to protect (and three or so other towers they need to destroy). On every turn, each player will come after other players’ towers by using their total Strength (Damage) to push through their armies. At the same time they have to keep up defense around their own tower.

Between battles players will get the chance to upgrade their deck by drawing more cards. Any player who manages to destroy a tower gets a crown, and the winner is the player who has the most crowns at the end of the game.

The crowdfunding campaign for Clash Royale: The Grand Arena goes live on Kickstarter next Tuesday, October 20.
