Ultra Violet and Black Scorpion,Disney’s Take on Lucha Libre
Ultra Violet and Black Scorpion is an Original show coming to Disney Channel and Disney Plus. It is about an ordinary teenage girl who was chosen by a magical Lucha Libre Mask that gives her the strength and powers of a Pro-Wrestler. She will use her newfound powers to fight crime and clout for more online Social Media following. Disney wanted to have a show that gave the Latin community representation on TV. Latinos are underrepresented in movies and Television. This show is a way for Latin Children in the US to see people who look like them on Television. The Series was originally going to be a movie titled Ultra Violet and Blue Demon, which stars real-life Luchador Blue Demon, but it didn’t push through. So Blue Demon is replaced by the original character Black Scorpion.
Ultra Violet and Black Scorpion
Violet (Scarlett Estevez) is an ordinary girl who has dreams of becoming famous. Her social media following is low despite her dreams of becoming an influencer. All of that will change when she sees a magical Lucha Libre Mask. The mask chose her, and it followed her wherever she went. When she decided to wear a mask, She turned into a Lucha Libre Superhero. She decided to go by the name Ultra Violet. (It is not related to the Comic Book character played by Milla Jovovich in a movie before, but both have Purple Hair.)
She wanted to get popularity, but her newfound powers were enough for her to start a career as a vigilante superhero. She needed a mentor who would teach her the skills to make her a better fighter and warrior. Lucky for her, She had a friend who knew the most popular Vigilant in their town. Violet will meet the Black Scorpion. (J.R. Villarreal) He is the Lucha Libre Superstar who uses his skills to fight crime instead of winning Championships in the ring. Ultra Violet and Black Scorpion premiers this coming June 3, 2022.

Blue Demon didn’t push through because he owns the rights for his Wrestling Persona. Disney want something they can copyright.
