Per a report by DualShockers, Ubisoft has apparently registered a new trademark application for Beyong Good & Evil. It’s not confirmation, but this has raised hope that there might be future plans for the franchise. The information was discovered that on April 1, there was an application in the European Union Intellectual Property Office database for Beyong Good & Evil, which covers the video game series and other things.
To be clear, this registration could just mean that Ubisoft is simply re-affirming the company’s ownership and trademark rights for the franchise. According to the report, the trademark also covers paper products and clothing merchandise related to the franchise. However, sometimes these listings do lead to announcements regarding the franchise later. A similar trademark listing for Alan Wake Returns was not for the game, but for a TV series that Remedy Entertainment had planned that would appear in Quantum Break.
Beyond Good & Evil was first release in 2003. A sequel was announced in 2008, but it never materialized. It would be nice if this would signal an ultimate return for Beyond Good & Evil and perhaps the sequel, but that remains to be seen. The door to the franchise has never been completely closed, so hopefully something will finally happen. Look how many years it took for The Last Guardian to finally happen, and it’s currently due out this year.
