Tim Miller Talks Deadpool Departure
When Tim Miller was announced as the director of the long gestating Deadpool, people were surprised. When it became a mega hit, they noted how Miller was a key reason behind the success. Then, when he was revealed to not be part of Deadpool 2 after a “bitter break-up” with star Ryan Reynolds, many were dumbfounded.
This lead to many rumors and suggestions as to why Miller left. The prevailing theory was that he wanted a more “stylized” film like in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Which they could’ve done because they would’ve gotten a bigger budget from Fox, which they didn’t have first go round. Now though, Miller has spoken to the CG Garage podcast, and let his thoughts on the departure be known, including refuting some reports made by many websites:
“I haven’t talked since Deadpool 2, [since I] I stepped off the movie,” Miller explained. “I didn’t want to make some stylised movie that was three times the budget […] I wanted to make the same kind of movie that we made before, because I think that’s the right movie to make for the character.
He also noted how a certain casting rumor that was tied to him wasn’t true:
“So don’t believe what you read on the internet. I wanted to do the same thing, Kyle Chandler was not going to be Cable.”
Furthermore, he refutes claims of big arguments with Reynolds and the writers of the film:
“All this stuff that I read kind of kills me, even when some people go ‘the movie was really hard to make.’ The movie was a joy to make – I think you see it onscreen. We all had such a good time – had a few arguments in post, but nothing more than usual.”
He finished by stating he hopes Deadpool 2 is a big success:
“I hope it’s a great movie, because I love the character […] and I want nothing but the best for the character.”
