The One Ring’s Next Expansion Comes November 14

Free League’s tabletop RPG The One Ring, brings JRR Tolkien’s intricately designed world to your living room, or basement, or back area of a hobby shop or wherever it is you play these things. The company announced the second expansion to the game, Tales From The Lone-Lands, earlier this year. The release date was just revealed today, and it’s in less than a month’s time.

Now they had gone on far into the Lone-lands, where there were no people left, no inns, and the roads grew steadily worse. Not far ahead were dreary hills, rising higher and higher, dark with trees. On some of them were old castles with an evil look, as if they had been built by wicked people.

Everything you need will be contained in an illustrated hardback with the material for six new adventures. They’re malleable enough to be played individually, or as chapters of a larger story. Here are some of the voyages possible:

  • A Troll-Hole, If Ever There Was One and Kings of Little Kingdoms are relatively self-contained adventures, but still hint at a growing danger.
  • Messing About In Boats involves directly one member of the Company, in an unexpected way!
  • Not To Strike Without Need and Wonder of the Northern World follow the slow infiltration of spies of the Enemy.
  • The Quest of Amon Guruthos challenges the heroes to battle an ancient evil.

Free League’s current version of The One Ring is a revised edition based on the 2011 original. This edition was introduced early last year with updated and streamlined rules based on player feedback. Tales from The Lone-Lands will be out November 14; you can set down a preorder today at the Free League webshop and get an advance digital PDF of the book.

COOL! The Lone-lands setting isn't the most glamorous in Tolkien's world, but the concept of six new adventures is appealing. I'm particularly intrigued by the slow infiltration of spies and the battle against ancient evil. I think it's worth a shot, and I'll probably preorder it to snag the advance PDF. It's always exciting to explore new aspects of Middle-earth.

This expansion is on my radar. The Lone-lands might not be the most exciting backdrop, but the promise of cool adventures is tempting. I'll likely give it a shot.

I've been a fan of The One Ring for a while, and the revised edition with improved rules was a step in the right direction. But I was hoping for something a bit more captivating in terms of the expansion setting. Maybe I've just grown too attached to the more iconic locations from Tolkien's works.I won't be preordering this one, but I'll keep an eye on the reviews. If the adventures turn out to be surprisingly engaging, I might consider giving it a shot down the road.

I can't wait for this expansion! I've been a fan of The One Ring RPG for a while now, and the idea of exploring the Lone-Lands in new adventures is super exciting. I've already preordered it, and I'm counting down the days until November 14th. The way they've improved the game based on player feedback makes me confident it's going to be awesome.

I don't get the hype around this expansion. I mean, I enjoy playing The One Ring, but do we really need more content for it? The existing material is more than enough for me, and I don't want to spend more money on this. I'll pass on this one, man.
