The CW Just Renewed Seven Shows — But Which Ones?
For the last few years, The CW has given blanket renewals to everything the moment the new year turns over. This time, however, circumstances are a bit different. With the fate of the entire network in question, it was unknown if ANY of its programs would see another season — until today, when seven renewals were announced. Here is the list you can nervously scroll down to reveal the fate of your favorites…
THE FLASH: RENEWED
This one is the least surprising as Grant Gustin’s contract was renewed not too long ago. It’s also still the most consistently performing DC CW series, even if ol’ Flashy ran out of gas seasons ago.
BATWOMAN: NOT RENEWED
None of the “unrenewed” shows are outright cancelled, but you should take their lack of news as a bad sign. As it’s gone on, Batwoman has become more of an embarrassing mess with each episode. If this is really the end, well…bye Ryan, and don’t let the door hit you on the Bat-Butt. Hopefully Gotham Knights won’t repeat your mistakes.
RIVERDALE: RENEWED
With this most recent season, they’ve decided to just turn the show into what everyone was saying it was and write down whatever thought enters the writers’ stoned heads. Archie and Betty have superpowers now.
NANCY DREW….
(deep breath, loooooooong drumroll)
….RENEWED!
Season 3 wasn’t as good as Season 2 (and a couple episodes were outright bombs) but Nancy Drew is still The CW’s best series, even if barely anyone knows that. Season 4 could be Horseshoe Bay’s last chance. The existing episodes are on HBO Max….tell your friends to start watching.
ALL-AMERICAN: RENEWED
WALKER: RENEWED
These two are The CW’s best-performing shows and if the network itself isn’t going, their continued existence was a given.
ALL-AMERICAN HOMECOMING: NOT RENEWED
Despite airing right next to its mother, this spinoff hasn’t achieved its ratings highs so far. It could be renewed later…or not.
4400: NOT RENEWED
Oh well. Let’s reboot it a third time and do it right.
KUNG-FU: RENEWED
This show only just returned two weeks ago. Feels remarkably bland for what it promises. You don’t have to be afraid of mystical action sequences, guys — do you know what network you’re on?
NAOMI: NOT RENEWED, BUT POSSIBLY TOO SOON
I say this despite this season being on the air longer than Kung-Fu. To me it doesn’t feel like they’ve made a decision yet. Everybody loves Naomi…at least in-universe.
SUPERMAN AND LOIS: RENEWED
The CW would have REALLY been in trouble if this wasn’t coming back. Bitsie Tulloch rules as Lois — one of the best takes on the character I’ve ever seen.
LEGENDS OF TOMORROW: NOT RENEWED
I still love this show, but it’s starting to get old and slip in quality. The new characters haven’t been as good as the ones they replaced — Matt Ryan’s “old timey inventor” character feels completely wrong and out of place for this kind of show. The most recent season ended with everybody going to jail — it’ll be weird if that’s how the whole story ends.
LEGACIES: NOT RENEWED
I doubt this is the end of the TVD universe. Just wait — we’ll hear of another spinoff before 2022 ends.
STARGIRL: TOO SOON
There WILL be a third season of Stargirl…it’s just the season that was ordered last year and has yet to show up. This is one of those shows The CW likes to air in the summer. It could be quite a while before we learn of a future beyond that.
IN THE DARK: TOO SOON
Like Stargirl, In The Dark has one unaired season to go. Season 3 was a mess though — possibly a bigger mess than Batwoman. Based on the ratings, I’m the only person watching this series and I’ll likely skip this coming season, because I doubt it’s getting better.
CHARMED: TOO SOON
Of all the “mess” shows I’ve mentioned, the new Charmed is practically a tangle of attic extension cords. It’s hard to think of a show that’s made as many mistakes as this has and still lived to a fourth season. It’s not even a “fun” kind of mess like Riverdale — it’s just boring. And magic is not supposed to be boring! Anyway, only two episodes have aired so far and we likely won’t know its fate until after the thirteenth.
ROSWELL NEW MEXICO: TOO SOON
Has yet to premiere the first episode of….Season FOUR??? Could have sworn this show premiered in 2021 or something.
DYNASTY: TOO SOON
So you’re that one solitary person in the US who watches Dynasty, huh? Don’t feel bad — I’m the only one watching In The Dark, after all (and not for much longer). The series only just came back and news of a renewal (or cancellation) may not happen for several months.

I “ll be Glad if Batwoman is not renewed. It is a bad show and they should have ended it in Season 2. I hope Legends of tomorrow will at least have a Series finale. Stargirl is the best DC adaptation to date. The Fight scenes are good and they made me care about obscure characters.

CW is the least likely channel to cancel a show. A show runner have to be super terrible if they cannot get a show renewed. It is not like Netflix or Fox that cancels shows even if they are doing decent. CW have better history of renewals.

Whatever happened to the CW Powerpuff girl show? I believe Legends of Tomorrow will still get a renewal. Batwoman needs to end because it is not worth watching.

Riverdale is a terrible show that gets worst every season and it is still not canceled. The Girls in my household are crazy about it though.

I went through the list. The only one I’m happy about is Nancy Drew. One of my kids used to read the mystery books, Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys. The Flash will be in its 9th season? WOW! That series has done better than Legends of Tomorrow.

What is going on with CW? I use to admire them for sticking up with their show. This new administration is like Fox, Canceling shows like there is no tomorrow.
