Shuichi Shigeno’s MF Ghost Now Digitally Readable Across Multiple Platforms

Last year Kodansha entered a partnership with ComiXology to offically bring to the US MF Ghost, Shuichi Shigeno’s sequel series to the iconic racing manga Initial D. MF Ghost began ruinning in the pages of Weekly Young Magazine in 2017 and its compilation manga has sold over 2.7 million copies in its home country. And with an anime adaption looming over the horizon, Kodansha figured it was time for MF Ghost to go global.

MF Ghost is basically an Initial D spinoff, and no, the initials in the title don’t stand for what you’re thinking they do. The deal to bring the manga to the US included exclusivity to ComiXology for one full year. That deal is up, so as of today, you can find it on Amazon Kindle, Bookwalker, Apple Books, Google Play, nook, Kobo or MyAnimeList. And in the future, additional volumes of MF Ghost will be released digitally across all these platforms.

The best-selling MF Ghost takes place in the 2020s, where self-driving electric cars have replaced internal combustion ones. However, in Japan, there is a large organization called MFG, founded by Ryosuke Takahashi (from the Initial D series), that conducts street races with internal combustion cars. There’s a new rookie on the scene, Kanata Livington who competes under the pseudonym Kanata Katagiri. Kanata has been trained by legendary racer Takumi Fujiwara (protagonist from the Initial D series) at the Royal Donington Racing School in the UK and is a Formula 4 world champion. He has only one motive: to find his long-lost father. But first he must take on a 19-year-old Japanese-British racer, who has shown up on the scene driving a Toyota 86 and is beating top-tier European cars.

The MF Ghost anime has yet to have a definitive premiere date attached to it, but it’s scheduled to premiere sometime this year.
