Ahsoka Returns In Early 2027

We’ve got a date on when we could be seeing that second season of Ahsoka Disney+ keeps promising. During Disney’s Upfronts presentation yesterday, Rosario Dawson — who plays the live-action version of the character — announced to the press the season would premiere sometime in early 2027.

It’s been a long time, and while that kind of wait is typical for streaming shows these days, I wish it wasn’t. The first season of Ahsoka appeared on Disney+ in 2023, and ended without a resolution to its plot. Stories of a second season to fix up the situation were just rumors until they were confirmed by Dave Filoni a year later. Filming for Season 2 wrapped up in 2025. It was fully possible VFX and score could have been completed in time for a 2026 launch, but it ain’t happening. It’s 2027.

Dawson did not offer details on what she’s been acting out these past few months, only to say “This season, the battles are bigger and the stakes are higher.” I’d imagine so. The Season 1 finale left Ahsoka and her friend Sabine Wren stranded on the planet Peridea, a place so distant it’s not actually part of the Star Wars galaxy. But it IS the place where the witches known as the Nightsisters originated, so it isn’t without peril. Ironically they came there to get Sabine’s pal Ezra Bridger off the planet, and they succeeded, but got stuck themselves.

That leaves Ezra and Hera Syndulla to deal with the situation at home. They will have their hands full with Admiral Thrawn, who also escaped his marooned fate on Peridea and is always two steps ahead. We still don’t have answers to the questions of what comes next. Maybe there’ll be some kind of preview before The Mandalorian And Grogu later this month, or maybe not. Either way we will get our answers if we wait.

Honestly, I forgot how long ago season 1 came out until I read this. 2023 feels like another era in streaming shows. The delay to 2027 makes sense in a production way, but as a viewer it is hard to stay excited that long. I do remember liking the mystery around Peridea though, so I still want to see where that goes. I also think Thrawn being back in the main galaxy is the most interesting part of this whole setup. He always felt like the real threat in the story. I just hope they do not overcomplicate things with too many side plots. Keep it focused and I think it will land better even with the long wait.

I am trying to stay patient with this, but the gap between seasons is starting to feel like a problem. Streaming shows used to feel more immediate, and now everything takes years. I get that VFX-heavy series like this are complicated, but 2027 still feels far away. I do like the idea of them expanding the Nightsisters lore more though, that part of season 1 was actually one of the more interesting elements. I also think Sabine’s storyline still has a lot of emotional weight that has not been fully explored yet. If they really commit to that instead of just focusing on battles, I think the wait will be easier to accept.

I am still excited for it, but I cannot ignore how stretched out everything is becoming. Between filming, post-production, and release gaps, it feels like these shows are designed more like films split into episodes. I do like Thrawn as a villain though, so I am still invested just for that. He brings a different kind of tension compared to other Star Wars villains. I just hope the story does not lose focus while building up the scale.

This is one of those updates that makes me both interested and tired at the same time. Interested because I want to see where the story goes, tired because the wait is so long. I do think Ahsoka season 1 had a strong ending setup, even if it was frustrating to leave it hanging. I just hope season 2 actually resolves some of those threads instead of adding even more mysteries. If they can do that, then maybe the long gap will not feel as bad in the end.
