Iceland Won’t Feature In FIFA 17 Due To Dispute With EA
The national team for Iceland won’t appear in EA’s latest soccer sim offering thanks to a dispute between the country’s football association (KSI) and the publisher. According to KSI president Geir Thorsteinsson, EA were not prepared to offer more than $15,000 to include the nation in the game, leading to the developers having to abandon plans to include the team that proved to be a surprise success in this summer’s Euro Championship in France. “They are the ones buying these rights and they almost want it for free,” said Geir Thorsteinsson. “The performance at the Euros show that we are quite a good team and many would like to play with our team. It’s sad for the players – but the criticism should be towards EA Sports.” “I really feel if we are giving away rights, or offering rights, it has to be proper negotiations and fair fees. I didn’t feel that this was done in a fair and open manner.” Iceland has never featured in a FIFA title before,
