In the last generation of consoles, BioShock stood out as one of the premier franchises. The new intellectual property was established in 2007 with the release of BioShock on Xbox 360 and PlayStation and eventually went on to spawn two sequels and a host of spin-offs in other mediums. Each entry in the series received widespread critical acclaim and helped bring new life to the first-person shooter genre that has become somewhat stale thanks to the huge popularity of Battlefield and Call of Duty. Little wonder then that 2K Games would look to BioShock when it came time to remaster some of their back catalogue of titles for a new generation of consoles. The franchise was simply ripe for an update, with the first release coming almost a decade ago and fans clamoring to be able to visit Rapture once again with upgraded visuals and performance. BioShock: The Collection Set for September

A fan-favorite game franchise is getting a facelift. Irrational Games, 2K Games and Blind Squirrel Games have officially announced BioShock: The Collection. The remastered collection of the three games in the franchise are being developed for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC. The set is due out on September 13 and will feature all three games for $59.99. 2K Games also released the announcement trailer for the collection. The set will also feature some extra features for each game: BioShock: A video series called, “Director’s Commentary: Imagining BioShock,” featuring Ken Levine, creative director on BioShock and BioShock Infinite and Shawn Robertson, animation lead on BioShock and animation director on BioShock Infinite. Museum of Orphaned Concepts: “Walk through a Rapture-inspired virtual museum that gives you a behind-the-scenes look at discarded concepts that never made it into the original game.” Challenge Rooms: “Outside the story of BioShock, tackle puzzles, splicers and Big Daddies.
