Super Mario Run Set for December on iOS
Nintendo has officially announced that a new Super Mario Bros. game is coming to iOS. During today’s Apple event in San Francisco, California, Nintendo announced that Super Mario Run will be released for mobile platforms later this summer. Super Mario Run is described as a “full-sized Super Mario Bros. action platformer.”
The game was developed specifically for mobile and will be available at the App Store later this December. Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto was on hand and showcased a multi-level demonstration for the game. For the purpose of the game, Mario runs forward on his own, but he relies on the touch-screen of a gamer’s finger to jump over obstacles, avoid enemies and capture the flag pole to complete levels.
Speaking on the game, Miyamoto stated: “But for gamers of all ages, the story just hasn’t been complete without Mario, so we are thrilled that Nintendo is bringing him to iOS for the first time this December. We have created Super Mario Run to be perfect for playing on your iPhone. Super Mario has evolved whenever he has encountered a new platform, and for the first time ever, players will be able to enjoy a full-fledged Super Mario game with just one hand, giving them the freedom to play while riding the subway or my favorite, eating a hamburger.”
Apple CEO Tim Cook added: “The App Store has made so many things better in our lives — the way we communicate, the way we work and the way we have fun. But for gamers of all ages, the story just hasn’t been complete without Mario, so we are thrilled that Nintendo is bringing him to iOS for the first time this December.”
Additionally, the game has a mode where players can collect coins and heads for the goal. There’s also a mode where gamers compete against the acrobatic moves of other people who have completed the same course. Gamers will be enabled to create their own Mushroom Kingdom based on these results.
The game will have a set purchase price. iOS users will be able to download and play a portion of the game for free and enjoy the rest of the game after paying the purchase price. More details on Super Mario Run will be revealed later on.
Shigeru Miyamoto was the lead creator and developer on the game for Nintendo. Nintendo also confirmed it will continue its partnership with DeNA for the launch of Super Mario Run. It will hit the App Store on December in more than 100 different countries and nine languages. A Mario-themed sticker pack will also be available for free for the App Store iMessage that launches this month.
