Good news for those who felt let down by Metroid Prime 4…the series isn’t over yet, and it’s returning to the genre that it defined (so much so that it’s half of the word itself). Samus re-enters 2D Metroidvania territory with Metroid Ravenous, coming to Switch 2 sooner than you think.
The situation she’s dealing with this time isn’t a pleasant one, but they never are. Samus’ ship was attacked by enemies she couldn’t see, causing her to crash-land on a dangerous moon. Now stuck there, she can only survive by absorbing the energy of the monsters that roam the landscape. It’s enough to make one…ravenous. “I don’t know where I am, getting back to the surface won’t be easy,” she says in the trailer’s narration. “My chances of getting off this moon are slim at best. Still… I will survive. And I will make it home. Even if I have to feed on my enemies to do so. It’s eat or be eaten.”
I get all that, but I have a question, Samus; where’s “home”? If she has one, we’ve never seen it. Perhaps “home” is what she considers space itself. That’d be poetic. If you had to guess Metroid Ravenous is from the same team that created Metroid Dread, you’d be correct. It appears to be a direct follow-up, and promises to be just as intense as that game.
Metroid Ravenous will be released for Switch 2 January 28, 2027, with the digital version costing $59.99 and the physical version costing $69.99. But you can pay more if you want to: a Deluxe Edition will be released on the same day that packs in a Steelbook and an exclusive “Metroid Suit” amiibo for $119.99. Two separate amiibo will also be released on that day, depicting Samus and a Chozo statue respectively.
