Kirby Enters The World Beyond In His Next Game

Hopes were dashed in this morning’s Nintendo Direct when the 45-minute presentation failed to produce anything fruitful…except for a couple of parts. One was right at the end when a completely unexpected Kirby game appeared out of nowhere. Nintendo has been leaking like a sieve lately (the Metroid game we’ll be talking about later already had its title leaked) and it’s nice to be totally surprised by something.

Kirby’s latest feels like a typical adventure until His Pinkness lands the finishing blow and sends King Dedede into the clouds. Instead of disappearing into the horizon, he crashes against a wall, which Kirby was led to believe was the sky. Kirby has been living a lie this whole time? Why has he been imprisoned and who did it? And what will he find if he ventures beyond the wall? There’s a lot of unanswered questions right now, but what we do know is that the game is clearly open world.

Though Kirby stars in games all the time, he hasn’t had a full mainline adventure since 2022’s Kirby and the Forgotten Land, which was also the first Kirby to take the puffball into full 3-D (this is correct, it took that long). The World Beyond will expand the Z-axis further with Kirby’s first entry into the open world genre.

We should learn more about Kirby and the World Beyond in the months ahead, as the game gets closer to its promised Spring 2027 release date. It’s also the year Kirby turns 35, and Nintendo promises more announcements regarding Kirby are on the way.
