Studio Ghibli Has Been Sold, But Don’t Panic

This December, the Studio Ghibli film The Boy And The Heron will open in US theaters….a movie director Hayao Miyazaki promised would be his last. To the surprise of no one, he has already gone back on that promise. However, he is not so naive to believe he’ll be around forever, and thus he has announced Studio Ghibli has been sold.

News like this tends to create panic among Americans, who have never known an instance of a larger company swallowing a smaller one that didn’t result in a worse product, higher prices and benefits for no one but the handful of people behind the sale. This, however, is not one of those situations. Ghibli has been purchased by Nippon TV, who has worked with the studio since practically the beginning.

Starting with Kiki’s Delivery Service, Nippon has helped produce all but one of Studio Ghibli’s films. They helped establish a Ghibli museum in Tokyo and Miyazaki, in turn, designed the Nippon TV mascot they use to this day. Direct ownership of Studio Ghibli is just the natural next chapter, and nothing should really change. The movie is viewed as an act of preservation by both parties.

So no worries — Studio Ghibli should remain the world’s greatest 2D animation studio for years to come, whether Miyazaki is still directing there or not.

Honestly, I was panicking at first, but after reading this, I'm calmer. Studio Ghibli's legacy is too precious to mess with, and if Nippon TV has been there since Kiki's Delivery Service, they've got the Ghibli spirit in their hearts. Here's to more magical movies!

Whew, that's a relief! Studio Ghibli being sold had me worried, but knowing it's in the hands of Nippon TV, who've been with them since the beginning, makes me feel better. Let's hope they keep that 2D animation magic alive!

I'm freakin' ecstatic that Studio Ghibli ain't in the hands of some American company, you feel me? Those American corporations, man, they got this talent for totally wrecking awesome stuff. The thought of Ghibli going through that mess? It's got me seriously heated! This treasure's gotta stay safe, no doubt about it!

If this company ends up in the grasp of Hollywood, there will be a lot of remakes in live action, and then all red-haired characters will be played by African-American actors, and then they will make it super woke. We dodged a bullet with all this American politics, American entertainment had. What I love about Ghibli is the fact it's not political. They do have political messages sometimes, but they're not shoving it down the throats of the audiences.

Miyazaki breaking promises again, huh? But the news of Studio Ghibli being sold doesn't sound too bad. Nippon TV's been in this game since day one, and if they're all about preserving that Ghibli magic, count me in for the next enchanting adventure!

Whoa, Studio Ghibli sold? That's a shocker! But, it's kinda reassuring to know it's Nippon TV taking over, considering their history with Ghibli. Hope they keep that Studio Ghibli charm alive, 'cause Miyazaki's films are timeless.

Bruh, Miyazaki's last film... or not? That guy's a legend! And Studio Ghibli sold? Low-key had a mini heart attack, but knowing Nippon TV's been in this game the 90s, maybe it's not all bad news.
