Square Reveals Daemon Attack System In Oninaki

Tokyo RPG Factory, the Square subsidiary behind I Am Setsuna and Lost Sphear, are now working on their third game — a more action-heavy endeavor called Oninaki. The game’s protagonist, Kagachi, is a Watcher, someone assigned to patrol the hidden netherworld and return lost souls to where they belong (reincarnation is a proven fact in this world).

As you progress through this purplish land in an overhead perspective, you’ll encounter a whole lot of monsters who don’t want you to do your job. It’s a good thing, then, that you have some Netherworld citizens on YOUR side. There are some lost souls that can’t be reincarnated — instead they turn into Daemons, special types of souls that can assist the player in battle.

Equip a Daemon and they will appear behind you, making a weapon materialize in your hand. There’s Aisha, the Daemon of Swords, Wil, the Daemon of Axes, Zaav, the Daemon of Spears, Dia, the Daemon of Shotbolts, and Izana, the Daemon of Scythes. Each Daemon also grants separate abilities like blocking, leaping, or charging.

Oninaki is scheduled to arrive on the Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4 and PC via Steam this summer.
