Ahh, PlayStation. We go way back, you and I. I remember when we first met. My cousin brought you over to my house for a visit. He had a weird game with you, something new called Resident Evil. And he didn’t have a memory card, so I stayed up all night trying to play it on one life until I got killed by zombie dog. By then I was hooked. I’ve stuck with you through four incarnations now, always replacing you despite your repeated hardware failures.
And you’re looking pretty good for a hardware platform that turns 20 today, the anniversary of your original launch in Japan. Especially in your shiny new anniversary edition, which recasts your latest version in a limited edition in the original PlayStation colors. Yeah, the one that’s $499 and available for pre-order via Sony.Store.com December 6. It comes with a camera I don’t want or need, but I’ve learned to forgive your little quirks over the years.
Will we make it another two decades? I don’t know, there are so many new competitors for my affection, plus you know Nintendo was always my first love. But we’ll always have Racoon City.
