Sold Out on You ~ When Mushrooms Meet Stardom

“Sold Out on You” is a 2026 Korean drama, 12 episodes, categorized as Workplace, Romance, and Comedy (Rom-Com), and streaming on Netflix (English subbed and dubbed).

  • Memorable Quote:  “My name is not Meechoori”. It’s Matthew Lee.”

SUMMARY: A perfectionist mushroom farmer and a high-energy home shopping host collide when a cosmetics deal forces their worlds together. As their lives intertwine, an unexpected romance transforms them both.

♦ In Search of the White-Flowered Uri Mushroom

In “Sold Out on You”, Matthew Lee is a meticulous and quietly intense farmer who also happens to be the brilliant mind behind a natural cosmetics company. Operating under an alias to distance himself from his past, Matthew Lee runs the only farm producing the rare white-flowered uri mushroom. It is a coveted ingredient in high-end skincare in the beauty industry. Matthew is deeply connected to his rural community, although he tries to maintain a tough exterior.  The villagers affectionately call him “Quail.” (English Subtitles spelled it “mechoori”. Korean dictionary spelled it “mechuragi”.)

His peaceful routine is shaken when Dam Ye-Jin, a star home shopping host famous for her flawless streak of sold-out broadcasts, arrives in his village. Dam Ye-Jin is driven, magnetic, and fiercely committed to her work, but her success has come at the cost of rest and balance. After a setback in her career, she’s assigned to secure a high-stakes deal involving Matthew’s mushrooms. Determined to reclaim her momentum, she barrels into his world with confidence, charm, and a refusal to be ignored.

Their first encounters spark instant friction. Matthew Lee wants nothing to do with corporate partnerships, while Dam Ye-Jin sees him as the key to reviving her professional standing. Their personalities clash ~ his guarded calm against her relentless energy. But that tension gradually gives way to curiosity as they’re forced to navigate each other’s very different rhythms.

As the story unfolds, the two find themselves spending more time together than either expected. Their contrasting lifestyles begin to overlap, revealing vulnerabilities beneath their polished surfaces. Matthew Lee’s quiet burdens and Dam Ye-Jin’s struggle to slow down create a natural emotional bridge between them, and their connection deepens in subtle, meaningful ways.

MEET Eric Seo

But it’s a K-drama, so there has to be a love triangle. The relationship dynamic shifts again with the arrival of Eric Seo. He’s a charismatic executive from a major cosmetics brand. His presence introduces new professional challenges and emotional complexity, adding a layer of rivalry and uncertainty to the relationships forming around him.

Viewership and Rating:

  • IMDb: 7.8 out of 10 stars
  • My Drama List: 7.8 out of 10 stars

My personal rating is the same as MDL.

“Sold Out on You” is an easy, low-stress rom-com.  Fans of Ahn Hyo-Seop (“Business Proposal”) and Kim Beom (“Tale of the Nine Tailed”) will love it!

In case you’re curious, there is NO white-flowered uri mushroom. Korean dramas often invent rare plants, herbs, or ingredients to avoid real-world scientific constraints and to give characters a unique profession or secret.

  • “The Scholar Who Walks the Night”, there was a Black Herb that can weaken or kill vampires.
  • “The Bride of Habaek” had Divine plants from the Water God’s realm that did not exist in the human world.
  • “Mirror of the Witch” (aka “Secret Healer”) blended Joseon Era medicine with invented herbs and magical medicinal plants used in spells, curses, and healing rituals.
  • “The Sound of Magic” had symbolic magical flowers shown in the magician’s world that are not real species.
  • “Arthdal Chronicles” featured several invented plants with hallucinogenic effects, healing properties, and used in rituals.

I think the scriptwriters have a wonderful imagination.

I’m not sure if this is my type of drama, but “Sold Out on You” definitely sounds intriguing! The combination of workplace and romance usually leads to some fun interactions. I’m curious about how they’ll incorporate mushrooms into the story, like, are they a metaphor for growth or something more literal?

Do you think it balances the comedic element with the romantic plot? I’d love to hear what you all think about the overall theme!

Since it’s coming out next week, do you think it’ll have a strong comedic element along with the romantic plot? I’d love to hear what you all think about the overall theme!

Overall, I think it's a typical K-drama rom-com. They didn't take any risks with the plot.
