Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938 | K-Drama Series | The Fox Brothers are Back!
Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938 is a K-Drama series that premiered on Korean television during May 2023 and is available on streaming platforms in selected regions. If you watched the 2020 series Tale of the Nine Tailed, there is no way that you are not excited about seeing the fox brothers again!
RECAP of Season 1
In Tale of the Nine-Tailed, Lee Yeon (played by Lee Dong-wook, “Bad and Crazy”) is a 1000-years-old Gumiho. Having to live 1,000 years without the woman you love is a punishment. He hopes this punishment will end one day when he finally meets her again. According to legend, the Gumiho has to wait for a thousand years to turn into a human being. That means that after 1,000 years, if he finds the woman he fell in love with, he can become human and they can be together. The woman will be easy to identify because he gave her a fox bead.
It’s not so easy to live for 10 centuries, find the woman you love, and live happily forever after when you have two enemies that try to stop it from happening. Lee Yeon has two enemies:
- an angry kid brother who feels that his big brother forsook him; and
- an evil serpent beast who has “issues”.
Both enemies have their reasons for wanting REVENGE!
Enemy #1: Lee Rang (played by Kim Bum) is half-human, half-gumiho. He is Lee Yeon’s kid brother who is angry with him because his big brother whom he worshipped and adored chose a woman and left his brother on his own. He follows Lee Yeon throughout time constantly interfering with his efforts to reunite with his beloved.
Enemy #2: Imoogi (played by Lee Tae-ri) is an evil serpent beast. Lee Yeon had killed him. However, Immogi had loyal disciples and they figured out a way to resurrect him. So he reappears at the same time and place, 1,000 years later. His back story is a complicated past, but his plan for the future is simple. He plans to kill Lee Yeon, take the woman that Lee Yeon loves to be his bride, and destroy the world. That’s simple!

Tales of the Nine-Tailed, Season 1, was rated 9.6 out of 10 stars by Viki viewers. I agree. No doubt Season 2 will not disappoint and the ratings will be similar.
