Ruth Negga Talks Being In Two Comic shows

Ruth Negga has had a very interesting couple of years. She was a part of Agents of Shield as Raina in the first two seasons, and even had a key role in multiple stories until her death. Now, she plays Tulip in the AMC adaptation of Preacher, another comic property.

Negga talked with IGN about what it was like being in one comic book show, then jumping to another:

“It’s such a fast genre isn’t it? We associate comics with superheroes but a lot of comic books are about anti-heroes and for me, the anti-heroes are so much more interesting. I think that this kind of might broaden the fanbase for comics. People associate them with the Batmans and Supermans but there’s a lot more going on in the comic universe. I know that people have an idea of who comic book fans are but there’s a huge variety of people and I’m glad that people of color are now making it onto screen in these adaptations. There are black comic book nerds and fans. It’s nice to see that reflected. That’s important for me. And I think that’s exciting. It’s probably moving faster than mainstream, Hollywood movies, that inclusion. So I think that’s something I’m excited about and I know people are too. They’re happy to see their faces reflected in a genre that they love.”
