To be clear, this news is not confirmed technically. However, the news (especially given the source) indicates that this is happening. For every publisher, there are companies that fans know to expect great things from. Their names are revered and when a new title comes from them, you usually know what to expect. For Nintendo, one of those is Retro Studios, who has made a name for themselves in the world of Nintendo gamers for revitalizing two key franchises, Metroid and Donkey Kong. Yet the drawback is that they’re always shrouded in mystery, and we never know when they’re going to announce their next game, or what said game will be.
The last title they released was Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze for the Wii U in 2014. So they’ve had over a year to work on a new title, and as they posted on their Twitter page, we might find out what that is very soon. The message reads:
“Can you dig it? http://e3.nintendo.com”
Again, this is not confirmation. In fact, if anything, they may know what other games may be revealed at the digital event Nintendo will hold next Tuesday. However, if I was a gambling man, I would find it very odd that they would make this statement and not be at E3 in some capacity. We have a week to wait and find out.
