In what will be a first for the franchise, Mass Effect: Andromeda will give players the ability to craft their own weapons and give them personalized names. Ian S. Frazier, the lead designer for the game, made the revelation on Twitter whilst confirming that the customization options would also be available for melee weapons.
PRO TIP: In MEA, you can craft your own krogan-style hammer and name it GRABTHAR'S HAMMER.
That one's free, folks. #space

Previous Mass Effect titles have allowed players to customize some of their guns to a certain extent, but this new system will give far more control over how the weapons will work. This is likely a result of Dragon Age: Inquisition featuring a similar system.
This follows on from earlier news that melee weaponry in the game will work differently from in previous titles. While its predecessors either used the equipped gun or the default omni-tool for melee combat, Mass Effect: Andromeda will instead include specific swords and hammers amongst other weapons. These will take up an inventory slot in place of a traditional gun.
