In “OPUS“, legendary actor John Malkovich plays Alfred Moretti, a pop star who mysteriously vanished but decades later is now the leader of a cult called “Levelists”. Ayo Edebiri stars as Ariel Ecton, a young writer, who is invited to his secluded compound, along with several other people.
The gathering is being presented as an “exclusive listening experience”. Exclusive? Out of all of the writers in her office, Ariel Ecton is the only one who received an invitation. Alfred Moretti is a little bit too old to be a pop icon. It will be interesting to hear what kind of music will he make now. Of course, had she known Moretti had started a dark and twisted cult, she might have declined the invitation. But once she was there …

Who doesn’t know the award-winning celebrated actor, John Malkovich? “Places in the Heart” (1984) was his first major film role and he won an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. His career spans decades, and his versatility as an actor is evident by the diverse and challenging roles he has played. His last role before “Opus” was “Seneca: On the Creation of Earthquakes” (2023), a historical drama film, where he portrayed the Roman philosopher Seneca. He hasn’t dropped off the radar yet.

Ayo Edebiri is a writer in real life. But she is also an actress, and comedian, and she does voice acting. Her breakthrough role was as Sydney Adamu, a sous chef in the FX series “The Bear”. Her awards include a Golden Globe, an Emmy, and multiple Screen Actors Guild Awards.
