I love cult-themed thrillers, so I was really excited about Opus. John Malkovich is the perfect choice for an eccentric, enigmatic leader. His presence alone elevates any movie. However, based on the reviews, it seems like the film doesn’t quite reach its full potential. Ayo Edebiri is an incredible actress, and I was looking forward to seeing her in a more serious, psychological role. The concept of a pop star turning into a cult leader is intriguing, but if the execution is lacking, it’s disappointing. I’ll still check it out, but I won’t set my expectations too high.

Ayo Edebiri is on fire lately! I loved her in The Bear, and she’s proven she can do both comedy and drama. This sounds like an interesting project for her. I’m more interested in how she carries the movie than the cult plot itself. The premise reminds me of Midsommar but with a music industry twist. Even if the story is weak, I trust her performance will be worth watching.

I grew up watching John Malkovich in all kinds of roles, so I was excited to hear about Opus. He always picks interesting characters, and a pop star-turned-cult leader sounds right up his alley. Too bad the reviews aren’t great. Still, I think I’ll watch it just for him. Some actors make any film worth seeing, even if it’s not the best.

Cult horror is one of my favorite subgenres, but a lot of these films feel repetitive. I was hoping Opus would bring something fresh. The idea of mixing music and a cult is interesting, but if the film is “flat,” as some reviews say, that’s a letdown. If the performances are strong, it might still be worth watching, but I wish filmmakers would take more risks with horror instead of just checking off the usual tropes.

A thriller about a pop star cult leader? That sounds unique. I hope they put effort into the music—if it’s central to the plot, it should be memorable. I wonder what kind of sound they went for. Is it eerie and hypnotic, like something a cult would actually use? Or did they just throw in some generic suspense music? A movie like this needs a great soundtrack to be truly immersive.
