No Online Gameplay for Star Fox Zero?
At their E3 Digital Event, Nintendo officially pulled back the curtain on the next Star Fox title, called Star Fox Zero. In it, not only will you be doing many a classic Star Fox activity (flying in space, doing barrel rolls, etc.), you’ll also be using new and modified vehicles to complete missions. Such as having your Arwing transform into a walker, and using a tricked out Landmaster. Fun stuff clearly.
However, one thing you won’t be doing, at least not at this moment, is playing online. During an interview with IGN, Shigeru Miyamoto noted how at present there is no online component to Star Fox Zero.
“So, we’re really prioritising getting this new game playing at 60 frames-per-second,” he said. “In previous Star Fox games we had focused a lot on dogfighting, but here we’re really focused more the single-player experience.”
He does note however, this isn’t a fixed thing, it could change as development goes on.
“Of course, as we continue on and once people get a feeling for the game… as the process continues if we find that we do think it’d be really good we’ll definitely consider it, but right now we’re not.”
This is curious, mainly because recently Nintendo has pushed hard into the online community, and in the case of Splatoon, seriously focused on multiplayer online. Star Fox Zero is a title that could benefit greatly from an online mode, but there’s not one here yet. We’ll just have to wait and see if it will happen at some point. Star Fox Zero is due out for the holiday season later this year for the Wii U console.
