The video game industry has been developing a rather unwanted reputation over the past few years as developers and members of the press have been attacked and abused by various groups online. This trend has continued, with one of the developers behind No Man’s Sky confirming on Twitter that he and other members of his team have received a large number of death threats from those upset that the title has been delayed.
“As we approached our final deadlines, we realized that some key moments needed extra polish to bring them up to our standards,” director Sean Murray wrote. “I have had to make the tough choice to delay the game for a few weeks to allow us to deliver something special.”
The adventure survival game is being developed by Hello Games and was first revealed in a teaser video in 2013. Since then it has garnered a huge amount of attention from both the press and gamers due to its open nature world, distinctive visual style and infinitely generated landscape of planets. This led to Sony providing extra financial support and marketing in exchange for console exclusivity.
