New Stranger Things 4 Screens Promise A Dark Season In More Than One Sense
Despite the real-world timespan of three years between the last season of Stranger Things and this one, only a few months will have passed within the show. Season 3 took place in the summer of 1985 and Season 4 will happen in the spring of 1986. How will the Duffer Brothers disguise the sudden and unexplained growth spurt of all the child characters? These new screenshots provide a hint…they’ll just make the lighting on the sets so dark that you can’t tell how old they are!
Most of the screenshots are very dimly lit, with some actors barely recognizable. This shot is most likely from the haunted house that’s been teased all this time, so I guess THAT place has an excuse, but the only area that isn’t pitch black is the frozen white gulag Hopper’s at.
The Duffers say we’re in for a dark season in more ways than one, partially by design. “When we pitched it to Netflix all those years ago, we pitched it as the kids are … The Goonies in E.T.,” says Ross Duffer. “That’s their storyline. And the adults are in Jaws and Close Encounters and then the teens are in Nightmare on Elm Street or Halloween. But, this year, we don’t have the kids. We can’t do The Goonies anymore. And so, suddenly, we’re leaning much harder into that horror movie territory that we love. It was fun to make that change.” Will it be fun to watch though? That’s what worries me. Though horror has always been an element of the series, it was never all-consuming, or so intense that children couldn’t watch it. If this season loses that sense of fun, and takes itself too seriously, it could become a slog.
*squints at photo* Okay, I think that blue thing is Nancy, and to her left is….Luke Perry? No, Luke Perry’s dead. Maybe it’s Luke Perry’s GHOST! That’d be scary, right?
Oh, never mind what I said about Hopper — they found a way to make the Gulag hard to see after all. It’s a good thing this photo had a credit, because at first I couldn’t tell if it was David Harbour or the rumored appearance of Robert Englund.
I hope the annoying teen angst isn’t as dialed up as this photo suggests it is. “You just don’t UNDERSTAND, Ma! Angry door slam!”
At least they still play D&D. Serving as DM is Eddie, one of the characters new to this season.
This last screenshot is kind of a spoiler. If you don’t want any hints as to how Joyce and Hopper reunite, skip this last photo. Stranger Things 4 premieres the first half of itself May 27, with the back half coming July 1. It may sound like a mini-season, but we’re told the individual episodes are very very long.
And there you have it. Joyce comes to rescue Hopper in a small plane and brings along Murray for some reason (I’m not really questioning it, more Murray is a good thing).

I like how Elle has a shaved head in Season 1 and her hair becomes longer as the seasons pass.
I completed the first three seasons, and I adored the 1980s nostalgia, as well as the sense of dread and adventure that the show conveyed.

I get the Goonies comparison they have on the first Season. Now everyone in the cast are adults, No more Goonies so I get the darker direction they will go for.

Will needs to have a bigger role this season. He got sidelined on Season 3 because there was less focus on him. I wonder if Season 5 will be in the 90s.

My Favorite character is dead but I will keep on watching. WOW the kids are now taller than Jonathan! The Stranger kids will on their 20s by the time we get to the final season.

Are we going to see Kali and her Gang ever again? She is suppose to have a spin off but it never happened.

Can we have other villains aside Demogorgons. I am sick of those flower dog things.
