My Adventures With Superman Teases Arrival Of Cyborg

It’s been a while, but the Adult Swim hit My Adventures With Superman is about to make its return. If you’ve never seen it before, the optimistic and relatively clean tone of it may surprise you, given the network it airs on — but it was originally developed for Cartoon Network before most originals ceased to appear there.

AS announced today that the long-in-development third season is at last on its way, due to hit in June. And they teased it with an image of what appears to be this show’s version of Superman’s enemy Cyborg. But who is it really? BECAUSE it’s been so long, we’ll have to explain that part…

No matter which continuity Superman is in, he usually has to deal with some military chowderhead who carries the unshakable belief Superman is a threat to Earth. In this story, it’s S.T.A.R. Labs pilot Hank Henshaw. Henshaw’s plane was shot down by Brainiac in the evil computer’s attempt to destroy the planet, and it appears with this image, we’re learning what happened to him. Severely injured, he was taken in by Lex Luthor and given a half-machine body. And that’s why he has an L on his chest instead of an S, so you know where his loyalties lie!

Overall, the showrunners say Season 3 will be an adaption of the 1993 storyline Reign of the Supermen, which followed the famous Death of Superman story from 1992 and was about four wannabe replacements competing for the right to be the new protector of Metropolis. One of them (Cyborg) eventually revealed himself to be evil, and the real Superman came back to sock him and save the day once more.

Now here’s something we didn’t know before now: MAWS is getting a spinoff, My Adventures with Green Lantern. The seeds for that spinoff will be planted in Season 3 when we meet Jessica Cruz, planned to be the Lantern of that series. But before that, look to the skies June 13 for the return of My Adventures With Superman.
