- In Mortal Kombat’s earlier versions, Raiden was seen as a dignified Elder God due to his age and status. But in this new timeline, he’s a young mortal, more carefree and like a friendly buddy than a respected deity. At Mrs. Bo’s Tea House, they decided to playfully spar, being friendly rivals. After their match, Mrs. Bo scolded them, then served tasty food.
People wonder if Mrs. Bo is Bo Rachel’s spouse, the teacher of Liu Kang and Kung Lao in the old timeline. Another idea is she might be a version of Bo Rachel in this timeline, as she taught them martial arts. While they ate, Lin Kuei ninjas bothered Mrs. Bo, like mafia extorting money. Smoke attacked when she refused to pay. Kung Lao beat Smoke, then faced Sub-Zero and Scorpion Nex, ending the story mode demo.
Mortal Kombat 1 story, first 17 minutes
The story’s beginning shows Shang Tsung still alive in this new timeline. Instead of being a sorcerer, he’s a con artist selling ineffective cures to desperate Outworlders. He promises a remedy for diseases, including the Tarkat virus. Now, the Tarkatans are a virus turning humans into flesh-eating monsters, which will happen to Mileena. In this version, Mileena was born beautiful.
People almost believed Shang Tsung, but a man he fooled before exposed him, revealing his daughter died due to his false cure. Left alone, Shang Tsung, not through shapeshifting, but by wearing a disguise, met a familiar woman: Kronika.
The question is, how is Kronika back after Liu Kang’s victory? Despite Liu Kang defeating her, the Goddess of Time returned for revenge against Liu Kang, aiming to disrupt his peaceful new era.
Aside from a glimpse of the story mode, Mortal Kombat 1 introduced the invasion mode:
The Invasion Mode in Mortal Kombat 1 is the game’s response to Street Fighter 6‘s Story Mode, known as the World Tour. Instead of creating a custom avatar, you get to pick your favorite character from the roster. This mode lets you explore various maps, unlock rewards, tackle minigames, and face off against unique, randomly generated NPC characters from different realms of Mortal Kombat.
It’s a blend of a board game and RPG, offering exploration, battles, and loot collection. As you traverse different maps and battle enemies, you’ll gather valuable items and treasures that can be used to earn in-game currency. This currency can then be used to purchase special items like skins and costumes for your chosen characters.
Mortal Kombat 1 also brings back classic modes like the Tower Arcade Mode and Test Your Might. With an array of single-player content, the game offers plenty to do while waiting for online opponents. Mortal Kombat 1 is set to hit stores this upcoming September and promises to be available on various platforms.
