Moira MacTaggert Won’t Be In X-Men: Dark Phoenix
The X-Men film franchise has featured many characters. Some have been one-note, some have only been in one film, and some have returned despite missing a film. When the reboot of the franchise came via X-Men: First Class, the film introduced a classic X-Men character in Moira MacTaggert. Who in the comics is a love interest to Charles Xavier, runs a mutant science facility of sorts, and has supported the X-Men for years. However, despite her being in First Class and Apocalypse, she won’t be returning for X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
This comes straight from Moira herself, aka Rose Bryne, who noted to CinemaBlend:
“Unfortunately, Moira is not showing up,” Byrne said. “I wish she was. I had such fun on X-Men: Apocalypse. I love that cast. It is a really fun, what do you call it? Superhero film… ensemble exactly. I can’t wait to see what [Jessica Chastain] does, cause I’m such a fan.”
Ironically, this might be a good thing. For sometimes the X-Men films can become too bogged down with the numerous characters on screen, resulting in not everyone getting screen time. Moira had a key part in both First Class and Apocalypse. If she’s not a focus in X-Men: Dark Phoenix, why have her?
The film will arrive November 2nd.
