Link’s Google Maps Adventure
On March 4th Link suddenly appeared on Google Maps. It was only on the browser version, but whenever you looked up a location, there he was, with sword and shield in hand. He took the place of the compass marker, always pointing in the direction of true north. Link has now joined the Pokemon in the halls of Nintendo Characters Who Cameoed On Google (Pokemon could be found hiding in the maps on April Fool’s Day 2014).
Was there anything hidden for Link to find in Google’s map of the world? No, not really. He was just there to visit, and probably promote his Wii U remaster of the 2006 Zelda game Twilight Princess (which I now own but still haven’t found the time to take out of shrinkwrap).
As for where Link will appear next, rumor has it his new still-unnamed adventure, due out later this year, will also appear on Nintendo’s new console, the NX. Though everyone has already figured this would happen, the rumor has been given an extra boost by a leak that accurately predicted every single new game that would be shown in the latest Nintendo Direct — and also predicted an NX version of the next Zelda.
