Iris West to “Step Up” in The Flash Season 2
The Flash had an absolutely amazing first season, which surprised both fans and reviewers alike. There were a few faults, but overall the result was fantastic. If we were to pick one of the things that brought the season down, it would have to be Iris West, Barry’s love interest and more-or-less adoptive sister. While it was great seeing her develop herself as a journalist, one that’ll be the premiere superhero reporter one day (take that Lois Lane!), many fans believe that she followed a way to similar path with Laurel Lance from Arrow in regards to her interactions with the Flash. Mainly, first she was fascinated with him, then you could tell she liked him, then she hated him, then she found out it was Barry and was conflicted, and so on. For those who had known Laurel for years through Arrow this felt like a rehash of old feelings. Thankfully, with Season 2 coming, it appears Iris West will be having a more prominent role, and this comes straight from executive producer Andrew Kriesberg, who said to Entertainment Weekly that Iris will take a more leadership role this time.
“Iris slides into [the role] very naturally,” Kreisberg said. “She’s a born leader. One of the best things in the premiere is Barry decides that he wants to work alone because he doesn’t want to risk anyone else’s lives, and Iris is really the one who gets the band back together again. She’s the only one who can stand up to Barry.”
Sounds promising. We’ll see how it develops when The Flash returns October 6th on CW.
