Introducing Project Unity: the world’s first Swiss army console
A modder by the name of ‘Bacteria‘, a.k.a. ‘BacMan’, has unveiled possibly the most impressive feat of engineering we’ve ever come across, a mega console that combines a total of fifteen (yes, FIFTEEN!) retro videogames systems into one. It is the result of three years of love, blood, sweat and tears, and has our gobs well and truly smacked.
The magnificent white cube pictured above contains the original circuitry and cabling from some of the greatest gaming machines ever made, including Amstrad’s GX4000, Atari’s 7800, Sega’s Genesis (or Megadrive to us Brits) and Sony’s original PlayStation. It is powered by just one power supply, delivers AV via a single SCART lead, and is even enjoyed using a purpose-built master controller. Impressive, huh?
Much to our disappointment, however, this monster is not available for purchase. When speaking to The Jace Hall Show last week, Bacteria stated that his “‘Swiss army knife’ of retro gaming pleasure” was a purely a personal project, and he has no intention of selling it:
“If I were to sell it, I would have to account for the 3,500 hours it took to build it, in other words, offers in excess of £25k, which isn’t going to happen, and not an issue as I built the system for my own enjoyment and achievement anyway.”
