GRIS

GRIS Piano Collections Album Now Available

GRIS was released in 2018 and fast became a cult classic due to its artful presentation and unique approach to its ideas. The title refers to the name of the protagonist, who drifts through a dream world solving puzzles and gaining abilities to access new areas. It’s one of the few indie games to have more than one physical version (a third edition is coming soon). One of the high points of the game is its score, and you’ll soon be able to listen to piano covers of GRIS’s infectious melodies thanks to Materia Collective.

Arranger David Peacock and performer Augustine Mayuga Gonzales worked closely with original composer Berlinist and the team at Nomada Studio to bring this album to life. “While arranging the music of GRIS, I realized how crucial it would be to capture the space and atmosphere that Berlinist created,” says Peacock. “That translated to using very different textures of the piano: strategic timing of the sustain pedal to capture delicate reverb tails in ‘Debris,’ and across several pieces, liberal use of the una corda pedal, and physically plucking the strings.”

Not only can you buy a recording of the GRIS soundtrack on piano, you can play it yourself. Sheet music books are planned for 2022 and can be preordered starting today. There will also be physical releases of the album on CD and vinyl, but the vinyl will be limited to 2,000 copies.
