Zool Redimensioned Has Launched On Steam
The classic 16-bit platformer Zool has returned! The game first appeared on the Amiga in 1992 before spreading to the SNES and Genesis — but never the PC. Better 29 years late than never, right? But it’s better than it was before…the original Zool has been remastered for PC, or rather, redimensioned.
Zool is a space ninja traveling across the galaxy to thwart the nefarious plans of Krool, the alien despot. There are eight worlds to beat with 28 levels among them, and Zool Redimensioned lets you play them in either their original hardcore form, or with adjusted difficulty for modern audiences not used to brutal post-arcade gaming.
Perhaps the most interesting thing about Zool Redimensioned is where it came from. It started as a project by students at Sumo Digital Academy, an arts school focused on training future game developers. The students programmed their own C++ game engine to run a modern version of Zool, under the guidance of the game’s original developers at Gremlin Graphics. It’s nice to hear today’s kids are still interested in the classics! One of the embedded videos below tells the full story. Half the revenue from Zool Remastered will go back to Sumo.
