Earlier this year, Netflix announced it was bringing the world’s greatest educational criminal, Carmen Sandiego, back to television to star in a new animated series. That series won’t be ready to stream for a while, but now we’re hearing of more: a live-action movie based around the property is also in development, and it too will premiere on Netflix.
Gina Rodriguez, TV’s Jane the Virgin, was cast as the voice of Carmen in the new animated series. And guess what….she’s been cast to play Carmen onscreen in the live-action movie too, which makes us wonder if the two projects are supposed to be connected in some way. There’s one major difference here though, and it’s the fact that Rodriguez is also producing the movie, via her “I Can And I Will” production company. We don’t know if “I Can And I Will” has any association with the cartoon.
The most important question for us is, if you dress Gina up in a humongous red hat and matching trenchcoat, will she resemble Carmen? We’ve created our best artist’s rendition up top. What’s your opinion?
