After the failures of movies like Strange World (2022), Wish (2023), and now Elio (2024), I have a feeling that Disney will focus more on sequels going forward. Originals just aren’t hitting the mark lately, and sequels like Frozen 2 and Zootopia 2 are safer bets. With established characters and a built-in audience, sequels come with less risk, and Disney knows this. It’s a shame because I enjoy original stories, but it makes sense for them to stick with what already works to boost box office results. Hopefully, they don’t lose that spark of creativity in the process.
