I'll admit I stretched this bit of the essay, I did it purposefully. Sort of a "Devil's Advocate" stance.
Still. I think most of the rest of it holds up fairly well.

what? No one has really bashed you in this thread, just made cute comments about your essay. Sure, one or two little comments could have been directed at you but no one has come out and said "omg that y3k is such a **** nut, I tell you!". Just because we dont agree or even like what you've written about whatever the hell it was you wrote, doesnt mean we bashed you on a personal level. At least, that's just my take on it. I'm just babbling at this point. You know, I hate to play devil's advocate, but I would be bold enough to say you've done more bashing on a personal level to other members on your first post here than anyone has done to you so far.

The main problem I have with this is that you put a lot of thought into things that really weren't meant to be all that deep in the first place. Like the judgment deal, I'm sure it would have gone deeper in explaining that and other aspects of the show if this was a show geared towards older audiences, but it's not, they just needed something that sounded halfway smart to appeal to kids and it's done.
You don't really have enough information to claim that SPD was an "evil organization", why? Because it's a kid's show that doesn't bother explaining the finite details of the inner workings of its' world 99% of the time. A lot of your essay could really apply to nearly every PR series, if not all of them.

...Is that so wrong? I've offered another viewpoint, one that I personally find facinating (and so did the thread creator, apperently). I typed up a short essay, and voila. I'm a fan. This is a messageboard. You know...to *discuss* things. I had an idea, a theory. If you don't like it, well, then either ignore it or debate it. If we're not supposed to think about it or discuss it, why even have the message board?
So what if your not "supposed" to think about it? I thought about it anyway. I don't care if its a kids show, it's an interesting point of view.

It's amazing. People who aren't capable of opening their minds to intelligent discussion have to resort to cliches. Some people didn't even read the entire original essay yet they are able to judge it.
"LOLZ! He EZ dah vERgAN!" How sad. I didn't know that everytime someone wants to discuss a television show they watch it automatically makes them a pathetic, stereotype. I'm sure you've never found a topic interesting that no one else around you did, right? Random, lame comments like that are the crutch of the intellectually stunted.
It also looks like JABR is still around. Here's a guy who got a boardwide ignore from RB because he pissed off so many people with his constant "my opinions are facts" comments. Yet he calls other people fanatics. Fascinating.
This is basically what is expected of regular posters at HJU. Instead of taking an interesting comment and discussing it (or at the very least just saying to yourself that you're not interested and moving on) you try to burry the original poster. "I don't understand the topic and don't like it so I'm going to make random, mocking generalizations after the guy who wrote it!"
The funniest thing is that the most vocal people talking about how y3k is fanatical and overobserving are people that are well known - and have been driven away from other places in some way or another - for doing the exact same thing themselves. People can't see the forest for the trees when they don't want too.

You're not playing devil's advocate. You're doing what you always do: defend the things you love to a fault and never opening your mind up enough to think that maybe... just MAYBE... you're not right and not always on the "right" side. (Which I know is a trite term.)
It's pretty easy to just lie and be hypocritical. You're great at it.

You must really hate fanfiction (and hell, good writing in general) then because that's one of the basic staples of it. It revolves around taking a concept and putting a unique spin on it. You don't have to agree with or even like the unique spin but you should at least respect the idea instead of coming with excuses to dismiss them like the ever so cliched, "it's just a kids' show" line.
