Why was there a Checkmate Four instead of a Checkmate Five in Kiva?

Disappointed that the Fangires Kiva fights aren't called Pawns. But it would be nice for troopers to be called Pawns to assist a fangire's battle against Kiva.

Think of the Volkswagen endorsement!

Oops. I mean "passant"...as in "pawn passant"/"en passant"...while it just means a type of pawn move...they could've used the term to define "Passed Pawns" (a pawn's "King Me" per say).

So Kiva could've had approached it like this...

Fangire Hierachy

King

The Checkmate Four ("Who serves/protects the King")

Queen
Rook
Bishop
Knight

Passant - "One who has potential to become a Checkmate Four"

...either that or the Rat Fangire could've served as the group's "passant"

Wait, what if Kiva is actually Knight? Not the person himself, but the armor. I mean think about it, Kiva's only purpose (Before Wataru became the main user) was to protect the Fangire race and get rid of any other lower races. That's the only purpose of a Knight in chess IIRC.

Here's my short answer (cause the long answer is a bit of a rant). Cause lucky clovers ws also four members. I'm of the theory that Toshiki Inoue's blatant re-use of themes is due to trying to tell an original story of his own creation through the kamen rider properties he's assigned to write and direct. The evil group of four being a key part of that story.

I'd rather see all 5 chess pieces as the bosses while the Pawns are the minions.

The Pawns will be the victims the fangires fed on and transform them into vampire bat warrior minions.
