Which next gen console to get?

So currently, I'm debeating on which next gen console I should get...

Orginally, I wasn't planning on getting a 360 or PS3, but white Knight story made me consider otherwise. 360 on the other hand, has Gears of War, Lost Planets, and Blue Dragon that I wanna play. Keep in mind, I'm more of an RPG gamer and couldn't care less about hype(I tend not to listen to it until I tried the game myself) keep in mind, I never buy a new system unless there's games I wanna get on it.

On the PS3 side, there's MGS 4, ZOE 3, Dynasty Warriors Gundam, White Knight Story. As for what's already out, there's Gundam Crossfire, and Genji: Dawn of the Samurai

On 360's side: Gears of War, Lost Planet, Blue Dragon, as well as a few X Box games I wanna try: Mech Assult 1 and 2, and Gun Griffon.

I wanted a wii for the diffrent style of gameplay it offers, as well as the fact that that you can download varios games.

On the wii side: SD Gundam Scad Hammers, Zelda: Twlight Princess, Trauma Center Second Option, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl...

With those in mind, I have no idea which system I should get first...I'll most likely get one, and work my way up to getting another but I'm definitly in no rush to get a PS3.

360

Mass Effect is quite likely to take Game of the Year and it's an RPG. LOTS of killer games already out for it and you can play with us who're online and mostly have 360. And more killer apps landing this year.

By time White Knight and other games you want come out, you'll more than likely have money again to get a PS3 and by then it'll have a better library and a better likely of a price cut for you to save money.

Then you'll have both and will have great gaming experiences without the wait.

360, definitely. It's cheaper and has a ton of more games. Trust me, PS3 is not only more expensive, but doesnt have enough exclusives to warrant a purchase vs a 360.

There are dozens of titles on the 360 that will keep you entertained for a year and there's a dozen new games coming out by the end of this year that will keep you even more entertained. Including hit RPGs like Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata, and Lost Odyssy.

I just made this decision last month and chose PS3.

Wii: I agree, get a Wii as a secondary console. I've had one since right after launch and if I hadn't bought so many Virtual Console games, I'd have sold it by now. It'll have good stuff to play eventually, but it's definitely not a main console.

360: It may have a larger library than the competition, but quantity does not equal quality. I've been borrowing one for over a month and I'm very unimpressed. Then again, if you love First Person Shooters, PC ports, sports games and a lot of Western-centric games, go for it. That's not to say it doesn't have Japanese developed games, but Microsoft basically has to buy off Japanese developers for exclusives or those developers are making games catering more toward Western markets since the 360 is more or less a failure in Japan. I personally have fewer games on 360 I want to play than on PS3 and most of those are Live Arcade titles. A lot of the heavy hitters are cross platform on PC or will eventually come to PC (like Gears, Lost Planet, Devil May Cry 4, BioShock and eventually Mass Effect & Halo 3). However, Live is very well done and well integrated and makes playing online a breeze, especially when you have a lot of friends with 360's. Live Arcade is pretty damn awesome and I want a 360 just for that, but not for the price they're asking. There's also the abysmal failure rate which you can ignore, but it doesn't mean it's not there. The 3 year warranty helps, but it's no excuse for not being able to rely on a $400+ piece of equipment. The $50 price drop next month does make it more appealing, but I personally don't feel it's worth the price of admission. If you have the opportunity to borrow one or play it for an extended period of time, do it and decide if it's right for you.

PS3: I own one, I love it, but it's way too expensive right now. If you want one soon, look for a deal on a used one. I paid $299 for a 20gb model (hard drive can be upgraded with any notebook SATA drive). It doesn't have as many AAA titles as the competition, but what's on it and coming soon interests me more. They've still got a lot of work to do as far as the network integration but it's getting firmware updates almost monthly and has come a long way. Biggest thing missing now is in-game invites and messaging. The PSN games so far are great, Calling All Cars and Super Stardust have blown away most of the stuff I've played on Live Arcade. Upcoming games like Warhawk, Pain, Wip3out and Echochrome look equally impressive. Oh, you can safely avoid Gundam Crossfire and Genji. Gundam is possibly the worst game on the system and Genji is OK, but the shitty camera effectively drops it to a mediocre game. Otherwise it's all in what you want to play. Resistance, Motorstorm and Ninja Gaiden Sigma are all worthy of playing as are others which are cross platform. Lots of big titles coming up, but they're not here yet. Most 3rd party titles will be cross platform between 360 and PS3 so you really only need to worry about first party exclusives. PS2 games look pretty damn impressive upscaled as well. It's also kinda dumb, but one of my big draws was a loophole that lets you purchase Japanese PS1 games through the Playstation Network. Nothing like paying $6 for a game that goes for $100 on eBay. :anime:

Anyway, before you make a decision, wait until after the Tokyo Game Show and European Game Conference. I have a feeling the megaton announcements missing from E3 will end up at those. My gut feeling is that PS3 will win out in the long run as far as Japanese developer support goes.

Megaton or no, I see a lot of good reason to get a PS3 in the future, and after a possible price drop.

While quantity doesn't equal quality, the 360 has both as reviews and gamers can attest and more coming in the very near future.

PS3 will get my money, but not based off of what I can play in the future... 360's got me for what I can play in the present. When I find the time to play at least. :anime:

Well, that was mostly based on my opinion. Gears of War got great reviews but I still think it's a highly overrated game that's not fun to play. Crackdown and Lost Planet were the only two 360 games I played that I would want to buy. Senko no Ronde might fit in that category too, but I didn't get to play it.

I'm not arguing the PS3 doesn't have enough out to justify the cost, but I don't think the 360 does either. Not for the amount these systems cost. I say wait for another year before considering either one. Then both should be at a reasonable price point and both will have plenty of quality games out to really make a decision.

In the meantime stick with the PS2. Sony and 3rd party's will still be supporting it strongly for at least another year. Sony's approval process is also loosening which means we'll probably be seeing a lot more niche Japanese titles hitting the US.

Another thought...get a PSP. There are TONS of RPG's and SRPG's out or coming out. The upcoming redesigned PSP also allows TV output so you can play from the couch. Just another option.

Quantity doesnt equal Quality but Xbox360 does have a number of quality games. Every game I've played on the 360 has justified the cost for me. It's been a great system so far.

I hear ya that waiting a year on both is a good money saving idea, but.... yeah... 360 from the limited time I've clocked in on it and will be soon is worth the price of admission for me.

Playing Gears of War co-op online was some of the most fun I've had gaming. JayDog and I got to the Berserker fight where we had to lure it outside. It was fun and hilarious to say, "LOOK OUT!", hit the button, dive outta the way and make a mad dash for the door hearing the roaring terror barreling down behind you. Fracking great and hilarious. :anime:

But **** yeah... the PS2, DS and PSP would go a loooooonnnnnnnng way for satisfying RPG cravings for a loooonnng time to come. I haven't even slightly dented what the PS2 has to offer in terms of RPG's. And my DS also has a ton and a ton coming.

PSP... haven't kept track of what it's got at all, but I'd imagine it'd be quite perfect for J-RPG's.
