Where did 'in Space' succeed where RPM failed?

As everyone knows, not only did PR:iS bring new ideas to PR and expand PR's storytelling possibilities, but it also saved the entire PR franchise and brought it back from oblivion. RPM on the other hand, has not only failed to save the franchise, but its ratings are absolutely tanking. Myself, I think this has been an awesome season. So what the hell happened? How did RPM screw things up?

This is a great question and thread. I think the way, nothing is paced is one of the problems, eveything is being rushed.

Another thing is, there not going all out with the theme, as space did. Sure there base is a garage and they have a couple off road vehicles, But it's more sci-fi and computer based then anything.

umm, I would say the fact that they are in NZ, but that's just me.

In Space was the culmination of the original Saban Era (followed by the Tzachor era I think). People were watching PR those days and they were paying attention. Nowadays, the people who grew up with PR aren't liable to watch it anymore because of the stigma on children's television. On top of that, people aren't liable to watch PR against after having four or five years of really terrible power rangers. Why would they want to?

I also feel that while RPM has a very good story, the fight scenes are a weak point. There is a point where not only do I not care about a grunt fight, but it's so over the top I'm pulled out of the fantasy that this story is and just stuck watching the wire work for what it is, wire work

So far the only In Space has one of the best uses of the PR Universe, while RPM is incredible while it's stand alone.

The fight scenes (especially the unmorphed fight scenes) have been the best since say....Lightspeed Rescue. They aren't abusing the shakey cam like OO did, and they're actually getting the actors to paricipate in most of the of fights, unlike in SPD and Mystic Force where there were stunt doubles abound.

I was going to say horrible fighting, but I tried to look in a kids point of view, and maybe just maybe it's good.

But IMO, the fighting is horrible, so many "I've seen that already" it's not even funny. Too much wire work as usual, why are they so lazy?

Half of it is probably all the "Screwed over by the network that's been going on." For one, in many areas it is constantly preempted for other programming. For two, have you ever seen more than one commercial for it on abc Kids and even with that commercial how many times do they show it for anyone to care? Very rarely. And for three, everybody in the main business pretty much accepted that this is the last season so outside of the main RPM production group, nobody cares. Unlike Space, in which PR was still at the height (though somewhat lowered thanks to Turbo) of it's popularity.

The other half is probably the show but I can't think of any thing technical to say in that regard as I consider RPM an awesome season. And no, just because some people don't like two characters, doesn't mean that ratings suddenly drop. They were pretty low before them. (Seriously, when has just a character introduced in a show caused ratings to drop in only 3 episodes? Even if that was the case, it would probably take like ten episodes for the ratings to get as low as they are now)
