What we like about what we didn't, and what we didn't like about what we did.

There is no such thing as a completely perfect, flawless series; no matter how good a show might be there is going to be something about it that falls short of the mark. Similarly, even the most awful and tedious of shows will have at least one thing, be it an episode or a scene or a character or an action sequence, something that stood out.

For example, Mahou Sentai Magiranger is my indisputably number one favorite Super Sentai of the 21 Super Sentai that I've seen thus far, but there are still aspects to it that could have been done better; Houka and Urara should have had weapon modes for their MagiSticks, Lunagel should have had a hand in defeating Meemy, and there needed to be some resolution to the fact that Yuma Yamazaki knew that Kai was MagiRed.

Tensou Sentai Goseiger by contrast is one of my least favorite Super Sentai, but their take on the stock "Monster that doesn't want to fight but has to be destroyed anyway and it is very sad" episode was just so good, it had this moment where the group is playing tag with the monster and it fakes collapsing to trick everyone into running up to it so it could tag them and that just got me so completely invested in the story that I was tearing up at the inevitable end.

So what about you all? What are some of the things you didn't like about your favorite Toku shows, and what are some of the things that stood out about the shows you didn't otherwise care for?

Dairanger: Loved it. But was kinda mixed on the costume designs. :P

Megaranger: Loved it. But Shibolena's acting could've used work. xD

Kakuranger: Loved it. But I wish Junior stuck around a bit longer. :disappoin

Jetman: Liked it. But wished the music, designs, and world building could've been better.

Timeranger: Liked it. But wished the cast wasn't so serious all the time. :redface2:

Gekiranger: Liked it. But wished Rio's backstory could've been fleshed out sooner than later. Would've helped make the story a bit more dramatic.

Dekaranger: Liked it. But Ban really needs to be toned down. :P

Bioman: Liked it. But Shingo could've been better with the acting and had better stories.

Shinkenger: Liked... the beginning and the end portions of the series. But the middle portion was god awful. Okay, maybe this is about treading the line of sentai I am actually mixed on. :P

Go-onger: Didn't like it. I liked Gunpei though. I'm probably one of few who did.

Goranger: Didn't care much for it. But the cast of actors were good.

JAKQ: Didn't like it. But Dia Jack was pretty cool.

Sun Vulcan: Didn't like it. Though Vul-Shark, the Vul-Eagles, and Hedrian were at least amusing.

Denziman: Didn't care much for it. But DenziGreen was badass!!!

Boukenger: Don't care much for it anymore. But I do like Souta.

Go-Busters: So far, I am very mixed on this show. Maybe a little bit more on the negative side actually. But I do like some of the ideas, as well as Enter. And J is starting to grow on me.

That's all that comes to mind for now.

Recent shows I fell in love with are Gokaiger and W. However, I wish the Gokaigers had had more growth and that the show hadn't done the utterly stupid episode with Ahim cosplaying, or episode 41 where she spends the whole time in tears and isn't allowed to fight her own battle the way the others did. For W, I hate Saeko Sonozaki's transformation from villainess to ditz-in-lurve during the second arc. I also dislike the whole Eternal/NEVER storyline and think Eternal's movie was awful.

My absolute least favourite Sentai is Magiranger and my least favourite Kamen Rider is Kiva, but in both shows I really liked the soundtrack and the majority of the designs. I also have to give Magiranger props for having a female Blue and male Yellow for once, even if they weren't characters I enjoyed.

My favourite Metal Heroes series is Janperson, but I think it laid on the draaaaaaaaama a little too thick sometimes. My least favourite Ultraman series is Nexus but the characters really made me feel for them at times, particularly Komon and Ren.

Whoops, forgot to cover other toku shows. :P

Black: Like it. But Shadow Moon sucks as a villain. :redface2:

Faiz: Hate it. But the concept is really cool. And I liked Kiba.

Decade: Hate it. But some of the fight scenes were pretty cool.

A good chunk of my opinion on Kamen Riders is that I usually tend to feel somewhat mixed on them. :P

Gavan and Sharivan: Don't like them. But the action is sweet.

Shaider: Don't care much. But Poe was pretty awesome.

Juspion and Spielban: Liked them. But some of the plots really tended to drag. :redface2:

Metalder: Like it. But Ryuusei's two friends were boring. :redface2:

Jiban: Don't like it. But some of the designs were cool.

B-Fighter Kabuto: Hate it. Though some of the concept ideas had potential.

Gransazer: Don't like it. But it's setting sounded interesting.

MMPR: Don't like it. Though a couple of the actors weren't bad.

Zeo: Don't like it. But Adam was fine.

Turbo: Hate it. But again, Adam was fine.

Space: Don't like it. But I'll give props for at least trying to do their own thing.

Lost Galaxy: Didn't like it. But at least it tried to do it's own thing.

Dino Thunder: Didn't like it. But some of the original villain designs looked cool.

It's true that nothing is totally flawless. I love Kamen Rider Kuuga but I do wish the series overall had been paced a bit more like the first four episodes. The show gets a little bogged down focusing on episode characters and a lot of the Grongi scenes go way too long. I kind of forgive it though because a lot of the focus on episode characters relate very much to the themes of the series. Kuuga is as much about people as it is about a karate bug-dude fighting monsters. With Grongi they're trying to build creepy tension. I think it could have just been handled better.

The other thing is that Kuuga's first fight with Daguba Zeba should have been on-camera. I'm not clear why it wasn't. I don't know if it was a production issue or a really odd creative choice. Either way I think having that battle on camera would have balanced out how the ending battle strips down the very idea of a fight in order to make a point.

In the category of what I like about what I didn't...the Black/Black RX episodes of Decade suck as a story (as so much of Decade does) but the sheer awesomeness of seeing Tetsuo Kurata in action again almost makes up for it. Seeing him back, combined with little touches like giving him a modern style quick henshin that still reflected his henshin sequences from the series and the direction on how Blacks leaps were shot that also echoed the series, these things made it fun for me anyway.

I'm still scratching my head over why of all the things they could have made a character arc about for Kotaro they focused on Kasami No Joe. I also don't get why the episode starts off as if Tsukasa were Sam Beckett Quantum Leaping into Kasami No Joe. "..oh boy."

I'm just gonna throw down the ones I have offhand; anymore come up later, I'll do them then.

Faiz - I dislike it but..
- I liked Kaidou's character
ml2ump.gif

- I liked the Rider suits
- I liked the Orphenoch Suits
- I liked the music... well, except for Sawada's excuse for music.
- I liked Mr. J's character
- I liked Keitaro

On the Flip-side, Blade:
- I didn't like Battle Song #3 or "Wanna be Strong"
- I didn't care for Amane at all.
- I strongly dislike this show's version of Tachibanana; he annoyed me to no end. "I'm gonna fall apart!", "I don't wanna be a rider anymore!", "I'm gonna trust this guy I have a strong feeling is evil just 'cause he happens to know Hirose!" and him inexplicably coming back in the finale was pointless. Like I said on Facebook, I don't get why people can praise that but hate Double for bringing Phillip back; at least the latter had a credible reason that's not "Oh, the chief saved me."
- I really disliked most if not all of the Royal Club's designs. I think the only one I was okay with Tiger Undead and, that was probably because Miyuki was such a great character.
- I didn't particularly care for the "Yeah, it's 10k years ago and we're using Rouse Cards!" flashback.
- Maybe I need to see the DC but, L'arc got a worse send-off than Femme.

Kamen Rider Decade: I hate this show with a passion but i liked Natsumi, i'd like her more if she kept her mouth shut and provided fanservice, lol.

Kamen Rider OOO: I actually liked it, but i found Chiyoko annoying but Kougami's cakes, i'd like one:laugh:

Samurai Sentai Shinkenger: i think it's overrated but i did like Juzo he was a badass.

Tensou Sentai Goseiger: it's a guilty pleasure (mostly the 2nd half) but i did like Burajirah and the designs of the mecha and the design of GoseiKnight.

Kamen Rider Faiz:Liked it.I don't like that Faiz never used the Faiz Pointer on the phone gun.

Kamen Rider Decade:Below average for me.At least it had Kaito.

Kamen Rider Den-O : Liked it.Hana should've stayed....I'm just not good with tsundere asshole little kids.In fact, for some reason, I like asshole adults better.

Kamen Rider W: Liked it.I don't like Terui Ryu's clothes.I also don't like the fact that Shroud never showed her face.I feel that the series should've ended after Phillip died.Make the ending have the beginning part of the final episode with Shotaro being alone.Continue everything onto Movie War Core with a new story and Phillip being revived.Remove Energy.

Kamen Rider OOO : Liked it.I really disliked the fact that Hina, the girl who can throw boulders and crush people just by hugging them, never fights.Even Ankh fights and he's just in a normal body. What a lazy girl.

Den-O: I liked it, but the big bad gets no story and one of the most interesting character dynamics got killed off when Hana's actress left.
Double: I liked it, but I thought the Foundation X stuff was inferior to the Museum stuff and it seemed as if it was just there to extend the show to a full running length.
Shinkenger: I liked it, but all the mecha after the initial five were pretty bad.
Dairanger: I liked it, but I thought the ending was poor.
GARO: I liked it, but I hate it when they throw pointless nudity in to try and attract more viewers.

Faiz: I didn't like it, but the suit and gimmick was cool, and the renegade Orphnochs were pretty good.
Amazon. I didn't like it, but the suit was pretty cool.
Gekiranger. I didn't like it, but the series' theme (Chinese martial arts) and suits are pretty cool.
Armor Hero: I didn't like it, but the action scene in the 'Emperor Hero' movie where the Fire Dragon Hero and Wind Eagle Hero return is pretty damn good.
Ultraman Tiga: I didn't like it, but Tiga's suit design and alternate modes are pretty cool.

To be fair, Faiz and Armor Hero are the only ones I didn't like but still sat all the way through. I do intend to give Gekiranger another chance someday, as I'm sure it isn't so well regarded for nothing (but I couldn't see it in the six episodes I saw).

Gokaiger - The only Super Sentai series I TOTALLY hated. A pirates themed Super Sentai sounds fine I just wish they didn't ruin it with this whole 35th Anniversary theme, and make them unnessesarily keep changing into earlier Ranger suits.

Boukenger - A pretty dull and boring Super Sentai series, the villians were lame and Natsuki was the saviour of the show.

DaiRanger - It was pretty cool (although I never completed the series), I just wish the beginning of the series wasn't so complicated and mixed up. I felt like "WTF IS GOING ON?!! I CAN'T UNDERSTAND THIS!!".

KakuRanger - Cool series but the bloody narrator is annoying and needs to go.
