What exactly was bad about Ohranger?

All of their names (designs?) were supposedly derived from dogs. Other than Bulldont...

Bacchsfund = dachshund
Histeria = terrier
Maruchiwa = Maltese and chihuahua

What dogs have to do with evil robots, I don't know...

Yeah, the hero cast was good, but what does it matter when they go to waste?

Bacchus Wrath...Dachshund? I have a dachshund and he looks nothing like Wraith...:laugh::laugh::laugh:

I don't think the dog motif was intentional buddy...

The Japanese love puns to an insane degree so I could totally buy that.

Thank you. People accept the equally nonsensical puns regarding Hurricanger's Jakanja being named after days of the week, so why act like it's a reach for the Baranoia puns?

They're not particularly good puns, I don't like 'em, but they're obviously there.

Speaking of which, the awful Baranoia designs are one reason why I can't fully buy that Ohranger was going to be one serious hardcore show. Those awful designs were made well before the real life events that changed the show's tone. So either way, I think Ohranger would have wound up being an uneven mess. The villains were barely seen in those first two episodes that really are the best episodes of Ohranger. Imagine keeping that tone, the serious invasion theme, and heavily involving those villains. It wouldn't have worked.

I guess it's plausible that the designs might have been made with the intention of being creepy because they have this sort of cartoony look but they would be doing very horrible things. They look like funny clockwork toys but they want to blow up Japan!

But then again the idea that it could have just turned out uneven anyway is also plausible because really most of the shows from the early 90's seem to have that problem to greater or lesser degree. To borrow a term from one of your posts on another forum, it's the DaiRanger "circus" problem.

They were supposed to look like an invading royal family. Like the brit's spreading their empire across the world, but with more genocide and less tea
