What do you like about New School Sentai?

above all else i feel characters and story are better played out than pre timeranger sentai. many characters are more relatable and enduring. plus, since the cast is basically young people, there is not so many grumpy/serious team members.

How do you define "more relatable and enduring?" That's a pretty subjective thing. How characters are written changes according to what's popular at the time - that's why I'd also be reluctant to say something like "special effects are better now." Are they better than they were in the '70s/'80s? Yes, but if Sentai is still going in ten years' time, they will have better effects than we do now. Etc.

In newer Sentai I like:
- The OP sequences
- The casts. I wouldn't say that having younger actors makes for fewer "serious" or "grumpy" characters, but they tend to have an enthusiasm that old hands don't always show quite so readily
- Filming quality
- Some of the suit designs
- Fight choreography
- Weapons: Someone made this point better on another thread, but to paraphrase them, I don't think a modern Sentai would give its heroes gymnastics ribbons or tennis balls as weapons. They may have been "in" at the time those shows were made, but ... they're still not very good weapons.

I liking the fighting too. It's a little more fast paced, but more importantly the moves don't look choreographed. They also make an effort to not use the same move twice.
Back in the day, the moves especially for girls, more specifically for Pink's got so repetitive it's not even funny. It was flipping a foot soldier almost every time.

I like how the villains now have a theme, instead of being just random ugly monsters. Though the random ugly monsters back in the day looked great.

The action seems to have more....character. IMO the few 80s series I can say you feel like the character is in the suit is Changeman, Flashman and Maskman.

The change in how the filming quality since Boukenger is also pretty noticable as well.

Good points. But the one thing that I liked about the newer stuff, is the Super Mode suits.

Super Shinkenger,
I just like seeing the costumes getting a revamp [...]
and end up crushing them almost effortlessly.

I don't see how adding a simple jacket is a revamp nor have I seen any significant strength increase with the people who have used it, in the 33 eps. I've seen so far.

Wow. Didn't know people had so much to say. :)

For me, I like how just like the older shows, the newer shows still experiment with stuff like new concepts and storytelling ideas. And I like how they try out different styles of executions in terms of writing and directing. I think Aba, Deka, Magi, Bouken, and Geki all offered something groundbreaking for the franchise.
